Whilst staying in Christchurch, enjoy an unforgettable adventure with Black Cat Cruises by swimming with Hector’s Dolphins. These dolphins are protected within Akaroa Harbour by a marine mammal sanctuary, providing a rare opportunity to observe them closely in their natural habitat. Akaroa is approximately an 80 to 90-minute drive from both Christchurch City and Christchurch International Airport. 

Departure Times: Seasonal variations. 6:30am, 8:30am, 11:30am, 1:30pm
Duration: 2 hours on water (+30 mins pre/post)

Essential Information:

  • A basic level of fitness is necessary. You will be floating in the water and must swim to and from the boat, covering distances up to 50 meters (150 feet) at a time.
  • Swimming with dolphins is not allowed for children under 8 years old. Children between 8 – 12 must be accompanied by an adult swimmer.
  • Customers need a basic understanding of English to follow safety instructions and emergency procedures. If English is not your first language, ensure you can read and understand the foreign language safety instructions and use pre-agreed hand signals to communicate with the crew in an emergency.
